Croatia vs Czech Republic: Go for Glasgow stalemate

Kick-off: 1700, 18/06/2021

Stadium: Hampden Park

TV: BBC One

Croatia looked a shadow of the team which reached the World Cup final when losing to England and may struggle to beat Czech Republic.

The Czechs will have been buoyed by a solid 2-0 success over Scotland at Hampden Park and get to stay in Glasgow for this game.

Jaroslav Silhavy would probably now settle for a draw from this fixture, so 11/5 for a stalemate is our first Croatia vs Czech Republic prediction.

A Look At Croatia’s Betting Odds

Croatia famously edged out England in the semi-finals of Russia 2018 but created little going forward in Sunday’s 1-0 defeat at Wembley.

Only Raheem Sterling’s 57th-minute strike separated the two teams on the scoresheet but the gulf in quality was much bigger.

Head coach Zlatko Dalic attempted to remain upbeat and insisted the Blazers can still qualify for the knockout stages.

“As we expected, we had to repel the pressure in the first 20 minutes,” he said. “After that, we had an element of control, more or less.

“Then there was one mistake. We have talked for seven days about not getting caught out of position. They exploited the space and scored.

“In attack, we didn’t show much quality but we were playing against England, who are a terrific team.

“We were their equal most of the time. This is encouraging to me and it will be better in the forthcoming matches.”

Ivan Perisic was probably the liveliest of Croatia’s front men down the left and he will take heart from how Scotland troubled the Czechs on that flank.

Looking at the Croatia vs Czech Republic odds, the Inter Milan forward is fair value at 14/5 to score at any time.

A Look At Czech Republic’s Betting Odds

Czech Republic have blown hot and cold over the past year or so but looked in good form when kicking off their Euro 2020 campaign with a 2-0 triumph over Scotland.

Patrik Schick’s perfectly placed header put them ahead just before half-time and he struck again with a spectacular long-range shot in the second period.

Schick said his sensational effort was planned, telling the BBC: “I knew he was staying very high and when the ball came, I checked where he was standing.”

The hosts did have chances themselves but head coach Jaroslav Silhavy commented: “The decisive factor was we survived the early pressure from Scotland.

“Then we got into the game and scored the opening goal. The second goal from Patrik calmed us down and finished the job.”

Schick was in fine form for Bayer Leverkusen last season, netting 13 times in all competitions, and was a threat throughout versus the Scots.

We’re happy to jump on the bandwagon and take 13/5 for him to hit the target again here in our Croatia vs Czech Republic betting tips.
