What Trueform says for Southampton vs Newcastle
Southampton and Newcastle enter their St Mary’s clash in dire straits following a poor start to the Premier League season.
Both sides have struggled for goals so far, each netting just six times in nine matches, but Saints have not lost to Newcastle at home since 2004.
With that statistic in mind, a home win at 11/10 is our first Southampton vs Newcastle prediction.
A Look At Southampton’s Betting Odds
Southampton have yet to win at home this season after draws with Burnley and Brighton and defeats to Leicester and Chelsea.
But they host a Newcastle side that have not broken their duck this term and are without a victory in their last five matches at Saints.
Saints showed signs of improvement in a draw at Bournemouth last time out, despite going a fourth consecutive league game without a goal.
Boss Mark Hughes said: “Clearly they (the strikers) need service.
“Maybe we’ve been a little bit reluctant in recent weeks to put good quality balls into areas.”
Last Southampton line-up: McCarthy, Cedric, Stephens, Hoedt, Bertrand, Elyounoussi, Lemina, Redmond, Hojbjerg, Ings, Austin.
A Look At Newcastle United’s Betting Odds
Newcastle’s failure to majorly improve their squad this summer is reflected in their poor results so far.
The Magpies had another setback when failing to back up their encouraging performance at Old Trafford, when they agonisingly lost 3-2, as they were beaten 1-0 at home by Brighton.
However, Rafael Benitez’s side do not appear to be too far away, losing six of their seven matches by one goal, including defeats to Tottenham, Chelsea, Manchester City, Arsenal and Manchester United.
Defender Paul Dummett said: “We can’t feel sorry for ourselves, we have got to carry on going because it’s a long old season.
“We’re still just at the start of the season now and a few wins can take you back up closer to the teams around us.”
Their poor record at Saints is a worry, though, meaning a one-goal defeat at 5/4 is a decent shout to complete our Southampton vs Newcastle betting tips.
Last Newcastle line-up: Dubravka, Dummett, Lascelles, Fernandez, Yedlin, Shelvey, Diame, Ritchie, Kenedy, Muto, Perez.
Bournemouth 0-0 SOUTHAMPTON
NEWCASTLE 0-1 Brighton
Head-to-head: Newcastle 3-0 Southampton, Southampton 2-2 Newcastle, Southampton 3-1 Newcastle, Newcastle 2-2 Southampton, Newcastle 1-2 Southampton
