We’ve got three Six Nations predictions from this weekend’s fifth and final round of fixtures and are hoping to hit the bookies with an 11/2-plus treble.
There are matches taking place in Rome, Cardiff and Twickenham, with the battle for top spot in the table going right down to the wire.
France -10 points vs Italy @ 91/100
Les Bleus can only finish fourth at best after another disappointing campaign but will still be looking to salvage some pride by brushing aside basement dwellers Italy. Jacques Brunel will take some heart from a late rally in Dublin and France have won 40-18 and 29-0 on their last two trips to Rome. Inexperienced playmakers Antoine Dupont and Romain Ntamack should improve for the experience of facing Ireland, so with the pressure off and a fine weather forecast, we feel this scenario may allow the visitors to open up and impress a bit more.
Wales to beat Ireland @ 4/5
The Dragons were far from convincing when beating France and Italy at the start of the tournament, but a fine 21-13 defeat of England in Cardiff and a clinical 18-11 triumph away to Scotland has won us over. After securing a national-record 13 successive Test wins, Wales now stand on the brink of a first Six Nations title since 2013 and first Grand Slam for seven years. Ireland were the last side to topple Warren Gatland’s men 13 months ago, but they went down 22-9 when visiting Principality Stadium in 2017 and will face a ferocious atmosphere on this trip.
England -18 points vs Scotland @ 91/100
England may ultimately pay the price for putting in a negative display when beaten by Wales in Cardiff last month, but everything else they have done in this tournament has been excellent. The physicality shown in a brutal 32-20 triumph in Ireland also helped them blow away France and Italy at this venue, with impressive scorelines of 44-8 and 57-14. It has been a Six Nations to forget for injury-plagued Scotland, having suffered three-straight defeats since opening with a win over Italy, plus they were thrashed 61-21 at Twickenham two years ago.
